The new grocery stores that fill the supermarket gap must be responsive to community needs. New York City should specifically prohibit big box retail food stores, warehouse clubs and other stores that destroy a local community’s economic balance. We can create businesses and jobs without causing traffic congestion and pollution or allowing corporations to destroy small businesses. The Building Blocks Project advocates for the preservation and growth of grocery stores that build community.
